Who should Observe Tuesday Fast

As per the astrology, Tuesday fast must be observed by those people who have Mars in the sin house or Mars is not able to give favorable effects on being weak. This fast is performed for the peace of Mars planet. People who have violent and fiery attitude should observe the Tuesday fast to cool down their anger. Boys can keep this fast for growing there intelligence and strength. This Vrat helps in making the business successful.

Significance of Tuesday Fasting

Every fast has different importance and results. Through fast, a person pleases his adored God and Goddess. In return he gets peace and happiness. This fast is observed for getting wealth, husband and relief from incurable disease. This fast helps to get liberation from the world of illusions.

A person should observe this fast, if Mars located in his birth Lagan has a weak positioning. Also people whose Kundali has Mahadasha of Mars, Pratayantar Dasha, or unwanted accidents in the transit period, should observe this fast for the auspicious effects of Mars. Hence, the fast of Tuesday is very favorable. Worshipping Lord Hanuman gives freedom from all kinds of sins like vocal or mental etc. And, the person achieve happiness, wealth and profit.

Method of Tuesday Fast

On the day of Tuesday fast, you should have pure thoughts. This fast is done for getting freedom from obstacles like ghost and sprites. On the day of fast, Vrat katha is must to be heard. This day, salt should not be used.

The fast of Tuesday is observed for Lord Mars and pleasing God Hanuman. This fast is kept continuously for 21 Tuesdays. This fast gets best results of the Mars planet. A person observing this fast should mentally prepare himself a day before only. He should wake up before sunrise, on the day of fast. In the early morning, he should complete his routine work and bathing etc. Then, sprinkle Ganga jal or holy water in the house to make it pure. On the day of fast, person should wear red color clothes.

In a peaceful corner of Ishan Kon (North-East direction) in the house, place an idol or picture of God Hanuman. At the place of Puja, a lamp of four wicks is lighted. And the resolution of the fast is taken. then, Lord Hanuman is worshipped with Lal Gandh, flower and Akshat, in a systematic manner.

While worshiping Lord Hanuman, taking the 21 names of God Mars is considered auspicious. The names are as follows:-

Ardhaya of Lord Hanuman is done with the following mantra:

भूमिपुत्रो महातेजा: कुमारो रक्तवस्त्रक:।

गृहाणाघर्यं मया दत्तमृणशांतिं प्रयच्छ हे।

After this, Katha is read, Aarti is performed and Prasaad is distributed. After the Prasaad distribution, it’s eaten by the person observing fast.

मंगलवार के व्रत की महत्ता

हमारा देश भारतवर्ष धर्म-परायण एवं व्रतों का देश है, हमारे यहां वार, मास, संक्रान्ति, तिथि आदि सभी के लिए अलग-अलग व्रत हैं। प्रत्येक व्रत का अलग-अलग महत्त्व और फल है। व्रत न केवल अपने आराध्य देवी-देवताओं को प्रसन्न करने के लिए, सुख शान्ति की कामना, धन, पति, पुत्र प्राप्ति हेतु बल्कि महाकष्ट, असाध्य रोगों के समूद दमन, अपने पूर्व पापकर्मों के फलस्वरूप मिलने वाले दुःखों के निवारण हेतु प्रायश्चित्त रूप में भी किये जाते हैं। वास्तव में संसार महासागर में मानव मात्र के जीवन रूपी नौका को पार लगाने वाले, मोह-माया के बंधनों से मुक्त हो भगवान के ध्यान में लग मोक्ष की प्राप्ति में सहायक अगर कोई है तो यह व्रत है।

बीमारी एवं शारीरिक कष्टों को दूर कने लिए विभिन्न प्रकार के व्रतों का उल्लेख हमारे शास्त्रों में किया गया है। मानव को मिलने वाले सुखों-दुःखों का मूल कारण उसके पाप एवं पुण्य कर्मों का फल है। पाप कर्मों के फलस्वरूप मिलने वाले कष्टों को दूर करने, एवं अपने पापों का प्रायश्चित्त व्रत द्वारा ही संभव है। प्रायश्चित्त में दान-उपवास, जप-हवन-उपासना प्रमुख हैं। यह सब कार्य व्रत में ही किये जाते हैं। प्रायश्चित्त करने से पाप और रोग दोनों ही क्षीण हो जाते हैं और जीवन में आरोग्य एवं सौभाग्य की वृद्धि होती है। मंगल, यदि जन्म-लग्न, वर्ष-लग्न, महादशा, प्रत्यन्तर दशा आदि गोचर में अनिष्टकारी हो तो उसकी शांति के लिए मंगलवार का व्रत किया जाता है।

मंगल के प्रदायक देवता का वार है मंगलवार। मंगल के देवता जब प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं तो अपार धन-सम्पत्ति, राज-सुख, निरोगता, ऐश्वर्य, सौभाग्य, पुत्र-पुत्री प्रदान किया करते हैं। युद्ध विवाद में शत्रुओं पर विजय, नौकरी में उच्च पद की प्राप्ति यह सभी मंगल की कृपा से ही मिलता है। दुर्भाग्य वश अगर मंगल देवता रुष्ट हो जाएं, अगर मंगल देवता नीच स्थान में हो अर्थवा मंगल की दशा बदल कर क्रूर हो जाए तो यह देव सुख, वैभव, भोग, सन्तान तथा धन को नष्ट कर दिया करता है। सुख-वैभव, सन्तान की प्राप्ति तथा दुःख और कष्टों के निवारण हेतु मंगलवार का व्रत करना चाहिए, स्वभाव की क्रूरता, रक्त विकार, सन्तान की चिन्ता, सन्तान को कष्ट, कर्जे को चुकाना, धन की प्राप्ति न होना आदि निवारण हेतु मंगलवार का व्रत अति उत्तम एवं श्रेष्ठ साधन है। श्री हनुमान जी की उपासना से वाचिक, मानसिक और संसर्ग जनित पाप, उप-पाप तथा महापाप से दूर होकर सुख, धन तथा यश लाभ होता है।

सभी प्रकार के सुख-ऐश्वर्य, रक्त विकार, राज दरबार में सम्मान, उच्च पद प्राप्ति एवं पुत्र प्राप्ति के लिए मंगलवार का व्रत किया जाता है।

मंगलवार के व्रत की विधि

मंगलवार के व्रत को प्रत्येक स्त्री-पुरुष कर सकता है। मंगलवार के दिन प्रातःकाल उठ कर अपामार्ग या ओंगा की दातुन करके तिल और आंवले के चूर्ण को लगा कर नदी, तालाब अथवा घर में स्नान करें। स्वच्छ लाल रंग के वस्त्र धारण कर लाल चावलों का अष्ट दल कमल बनावें उस पर स्वर्ण की मूर्ति बनवाकर प्रतिष्ठादि करें। लाल अक्षत, लाल पुष्प, लाल चन्दन एवं लाल धान्य गेहूं सूजी आदि के बने हुए पदार्थों का भोग लगावें, घर को गोबर से लीप कर स्थान पवित्र करें फिर पत्नी सहित मंगल देवता का पूजन करें। मंगल देवता का ध्यान करें एवं उसके इक्कीस नामों का जाप करें जो निम्न हैं-

नाम जब के साथ सुख सौभाग्य के लिए प्रार्थना करें। पूजन की जगह पर घी की चार बत्तियों का चौमुखा दीपक जलावें। इक्कीस दिन मंगलवार का व्रत करें और इक्कीस लड्‌डुओं का भोग लगाकर वेद के ज्ञाता सुपात्र ब्राह्‌मण को दें। दिन में केवल एक बार ही भोजन करें।

इक्कीस व्रतों के अथवा इच्छा पूर्ति होने परे मंगलवार के व्रत का उद्यापन करें। उद्यापन के अन्त में इक्कीस ब्राह्‌मणों को भोजन कराकर यथाशक्ति स्वर्णदान करें। आचार्य को सामर्थ्यानुसार दक्षिणा देकर लाल बैल का दान करें फिर स्वयं भोजन करें।

मंगलवार के दिन स्वाति नक्षत्र हो तो उस दिन प्रातः स्नानादि से निवृत्त होकर मंगलयंत्र का निर्माण करें या मंगल देव की मूर्ति बनावें, मंगल की मूर्ति का लाल पुष्पों से पूजन करें, लाल वस्त्र पहनावें और गुड़, घी, गेहूं के बने पदार्थों का भोग लगावें। रात्रि के समय एक बार भोजन करें। पृथ्वी पर शयन करें, इस प्रकार मंगलवार का व्रत करें और सातवें मंगलवार को मंगल की स्वर्ण की मूर्ति का निर्माण कर उसका पूजन अर्चन करें, दो लाल वस्त्रों से आच्छादित करें, लाल चन्दन, षटगंध, धूप, पुष्प, सदचावल, दीप आदि से पूजा करें, सफेद कसार का भोग लगावें। तिल, चीनी, घी का सांकल्य बना कर ‘ओम कुजाय नमः स्वाहा’ से हवन करें। हवन और पूजा के बाद ब्राह्‌मण को भोजन करावें और मंगल की मूर्ति ब्राह्‌मण को दक्षिणा में दें तो मंगल ग्रह जनित सभी अनिष्टों की समाप्ति हो व्रत के प्रभाव से सुख-शान्ति यश और ऐश्वर्य की वृद्धि होती है।

मंगलवार की पूजा करने, व्रत करने, मंगलवार की कथा सुनने, आरती करने और प्रसाद भक्तों में बाटने से सब प्रकार की विपत्ति नष्ट हो कर सुख मिलता है, और जीवन पर्यन्त पुत्र-पौत्र और धन आदि से युक्त हो कर अन्त में विष्णु लोक को जाता है और सभी प्रकार के ऋण से उऋण हो कर धनलक्ष्मी की प्राप्ति होती है। स्त्री तथा कन्याओं को यह व्रत विशेष रूप से लाभप्रद है। उनके लिए पति का अखण्ड सुख संपत्ति तथा आयु की प्राप्ति होती है और वह सदा सुहागिन रहती हैं अर्थात्‌ कभी भी विधवा नहीं होती हैं। स्त्रियों को मंगलवार के दिन पार्वती मंगल, गौरी पूजन करके मंगलवार व्रत विधि कथा अथवा मंगला गौरी व्रत कथा सुननी चाहिए। यह कथा सर्वकल्याण को देने वाली होती है।

मंगलवार व्रत कथा -1

व्यास जी ने कहा- एक बार नैमिषारण्य तीर्थ में अस्सी हजार मुनि एकत्र हो कर पुराणों के ज्ञाता श्री सूत जी से पूछने लगे- हे महामुने! आपने हमें अनेक पुराणों की कथाएं सुनाई हैं, अब कृपा करके हमें ऐसा व्रत और कथा बतायें जिसके करने से सन्तान की प्राप्ति हो तथा मनुष्यों को रोग, शोक, अग्नि, सर्व दुःख आदि का भय दूर हो क्योंकि कलियुग में सभी जीवों की आयु बहुत कम है। फिर इस पर उन्हें रोग-चिन्ता के कष्ट लगे रहेंगे तो फिर वह श्री हरि के चरणों में अपना ध्यान कैसे लगा सकेंगे।

श्री सूत जी बोले- हे मुनियों! आपने लोक कल्याण के लिए बहुत ही उत्तम बात पूछी है। एक बार युधिष्ठिर ने भगवान श्रीकृष्ण से लोक कल्याण के लिए यही प्रश्न किया था। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण और युधिष्ठिर का संवाद तुम्हारे सामने कहता हूं, ध्यान देकर सुनो।

एक समय पाण्डवों की सभा में श्रीकृष्ण जी बैठे हुए थे। तब युधिष्ठिर ने भगवान श्रीकृष्ण से प्रश्न किया- हे प्रभो, नन्दनन्द, गोविन्द! आपने मेरे लिए अनेकों कथायें सुनाई हैं, आज आप कृपा करके ऐसा व्रत या कथा सुनायें जिसके करने से मनुष्य को रोग-चिन्ता का भय समाप्त हो और उसको पुत्र की प्राप्ति हो, हे प्रभो, बिना पुत्र के जीवन व्यर्थ है, पुत्र के बिना मनुष्य नरकगामी होता है, पुत्र के बिना मनुष्य पितृ-ऋण से छुटकारा नहीं पा सकता और न ही उसका पुन्नग नामक नरक से उद्धार हो सकता है। अतः पुत्र दायक व्रत बतलाएं।

श्रीकृष्ण भगवान बोले- हे राजन्‌ ! मैं एक प्राचीन इतिहास सुनाता हूं, आप उसे ध्यानपूर्वक सुनो।
कुण्डलपुर नामक एक नगर था, उसमें नन्दा नामक एक ब्राह्‌मण रहता था। भगवान की कृपा से उसके पास सब कुछ था, फिर भी वह दुःखी था। इसका कारण यह था कि ब्राह्‌मण की स्त्री सुनन्दा के कोई सन्तान न थी। सुनन्दा पतिव्रता थी। भक्तिपूर्वक श्री हनुमान जी की आराधना करती थी। मंगलवार के दिन व्रत करके अन्त में भोजन बना कर हनुमान जी का भोग लगाने के बाद स्वयं भोजन करती थी। एक बार मंगलवार के दिन ब्राह्‌मणी गृह कार्य की अधिकता के कारण हनुमान जी को भोग न लगा सकी, तो इस पर उसे बहुत दुःख हुआ। उसने कुछ भी नहीं खाया और अपने मन में प्रण किया कि अब तो अगले मंगलवार को ही हनुमान जी का भोग लगाकर अन्न-जल ग्रहण करूंगी।

ब्राह्‌मणी सुनन्दा प्रतिदिन भोजन बनाती, श्रद्धापूर्वक पति को खिलाती, परन्तु स्वयं भोजन नहीं करती और मन ही मन श्री हनुमान जी की आराधना करती थी। इसी प्रकार छः दिन गुजर गए, और ब्राह्‌मणी सुनन्दा अपने निश्चय के अनुसार भूखी प्यासी निराहार रही, अगले मंगलवार को ब्राह्‌मणी सुनन्दा प्रातः काल ही बेहोश होकर गिर पड़ी।

ब्राह्‌मणी सुनन्दा की इस असीम भक्ति के प्रभाव से श्री हनुमान जी बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और प्रकट होकर बोले- सुनन्दा ! मैं तेरी भक्ति से बहुत प्रसन्न हूं, तू उठ और वर मांग।

सुनन्दा अपने आराध्य देव श्री हनुमान जी को देखकर आनन्द की अधिकता से विह्‌वल हो श्री हनुमान जी के चरणों में गिरकर बोली- ‘हे प्रभु, मेरी कोई सन्तान नहीं है, कृपा करके मुझे सन्तान प्राप्ति का आशीर्वाद दें, आपकी अति कृपा होगी।’

श्री महावीर जी बोले -‘तेरी इच्छा पूर्ण होगी। तेरे एक कन्या पैदा होगी उसके अष्टांग प्रतिदिन सोना दिया करेंगे।’ इस प्रकार कह कर श्री महावीर जी अन्तर्ध्यान हो गये। ब्राह्‌मणी सुनन्दा बहुत हर्षित हुई और सभी समाचार अपने पति से कहा, ब्राह्‌मण देव कन्या का वरदान सुनकर कुछ दुःखी हुए, परन्तु सोना मिलने की बात सुनी तो बहुत प्रसन्न हुए। विचार किया कि ऐसी कन्या के साथ मेरी निर्धनता भी समाप्त हो जाएगी।

श्री हनुमान जी की कृपा से वह ब्राह्‌मणी गर्भवती हुई और दसवें महीने में उसे बहुत ही सुन्दर पुत्री प्राप्त हुई। यह बच्ची, अपने पिता के घर में ठीक उसी तरह से बढ़ने लगी, जिस प्रकार शुक्लपक्ष का चन्द्रमा बढ ता है। दसवें दिन ब्राह्‌मण ने उस बालिका का नामकरण संस्कार कराया, उसके कुल पुरोहित ने उस बालिका का नाम रत्नावली रखा, क्योंकि यह कन्या सोना प्रदान किया करती थी, इस कन्या ने पूर्व-जन्म में बड़े ही विधान से मंगलदेव का व्रत किया था।

रत्नावली का अष्टांग बहुत सा सोना देता था, उस सोने से नन्दा ब्राह्‌मण बहुत ही धनवान हो गय। अब ब्राह्‌मणी भी बहुत अभिमान करने लगी थी। समय बीतता रहा, अब रत्नावली दस वर्ष की हो चुकी थी। एक दिन जब नन्दा ब्राह्‌मण प्रसन्न चित्त था, तब सुनन्दा ने अपने पति से कहा- ‘मेरी पुत्री रत्नावली विवाह के योग्य हो गयी है, अतः आप कोई सुन्दर तथा योग्य वर देखकर इसका विवाह कर दें।’ यह सुन ब्राह्‌मण बोला- ‘अभी तो रत्नावली बहुत छोटी है’ । तब ब्राह्‌मणी बोली- ‘शास्त्रों की आज्ञा है कि कन्या आठवें वर्ष में गौरी, नौ वर्ष में राहिणी, दसवें वर्ष में कन्या इसके पश्चात रजस्वला हो जाती है। गौरी के दान से पाताल लोक की प्राप्ति होती है, राहिणी के दान से बैकुण्ठ लोक की प्राप्ति होती है, कन्या के दान से इन्द्रलोक में सुखों की प्राप्ति होती है। अगर हे पतिदेव! रजस्वला का दान किया जाता है तो घोर नर्क की प्राप्ति होती है।’

इस पर ब्राह्‌मण बोला -‘अभी तो रत्नावली मात्र दस ही वर्ष की है और मैंने तो सोलह-सोलह साल की कन्याओं के विवाह कराये हैं अभी जल्दी क्या है।’ तब ब्राह्‌मणी सुनन्दा बोली- ‘ आपको तो लोभ अधिक हो गया लगता है। शास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि माता-पिता और बड़ा भाई रजस्वला कन्या को देखते हैं तो वह अवश्य ही नरकगामी होते हैं।’

तब ब्राह्‌मण बोला-‘अच्छी बात है, कल मैं अवश्य ही योग्य वर की तलाश में अपना दूत भेजूंगा।’ दूसरे दिन ब्राह्‌मण ने अपने दूत को बुलाया और आज्ञा दी कि जैसी सुन्दर मेरी कन्या है वैसा ही सुन्दर वर उसके लिए तलाश करो। दूत अपने स्वामी की आज्ञा पाकर निकल पड़ा। पम्पई नगर में उसने एक सुन्दर लड के को देखा। यह बालक एक ब्राह्‌मण परिवार का बहुत गुणवान पुत्र था, इसका नाम सोमेश्वर था। दूत ने इस सुन्दर व गुणवान ब्राह्‌मण पुत्र के बारे में अपने स्वामी को पूर्ण विवरण दिया। ब्राह्‌मण नन्दा को भी सोमेश्वर अच्छा लगा और फिर शुभ मुहूर्त में विधिपूर्वक कन्या दान करके ब्राह्‌मण-ब्राह्‌मणी संतुष्ट हुए।

परन्तु! ब्राह्‌मण के मन तो लोभ समाया हुआ था। उसने कन्यादान तो कर दिया था पर वह बहुत खिन्न भी था। उसने विचार किया कि रत्नावली तो अब चली जावेगी, और मुझे इससे जो सोना मिलता था, वह अब मिलेगा नहीं। मेरे पास जो धन था कुछ तो इसके विवाह में खर्च हो गया और जो शेष बचा है वह भी कुछ दिनों पश्चात समाप्त हो जाएगा। मैंने तो इसका विवाह करके बहुत बड़ी भूल कर दी है। अब कोई ऐसा उपाय हो कि रत्नावली मेरे घर में ही बनी रहे, अपनी ससुराल ना जावे। लोभ रूपी राक्षस ब्राह्‌मण के मस्तिष्क पर छाता जा रहा था। रात भर अपनी शैय्‌या पर बेचैनी से करवटें बदलते-बदलते उसने एक बहुत ही क्रूर निर्णय लिया। उसने विचार किया कि जब रत्नावली को लेकर उसका पति सोमेश्वर अपने घर के लिए जाएगा तो वह मार्ग में छिप कर सोमेश्वर का वध कर देगा और अपनी लड की को अपने घर ले आवेगा, जिससे नियमित रूप से उसे सोना भी मिलता रहेगा और समाज का कोई मनुष्य उसे दोष भी नहीं दे सकेगा।

प्रातःकाल हुआ तो, नन्दा और सुनन्दा ने अपने जमाई तथा लड की को बहुत सारा धन देकर विदा किया। सोमेश्वर अपनी पत्नी रत्नावली को लेकर ससुराल से अपने घर की तरफ चल दिया।

ब्राह्‌मण नन्दा महालोभ के वशीभूत हो अपनी मति खो चुका था। पाप-पुण्य को उसे विचार न रहा था। अपने भयानक व क्रूर निर्णय को कार्यरूप देने के लिए उसने अपने दूत को मार्ग में अपने जमाई का वध करने के लिए भेज दिया था ताकि रत्नावली से प्राप्त होने वाला सोना उसे हमेशा मिलता रहे और वो कभी निर्धन न हों ब्राह्‌मण के दूत ने अपने स्वामी की आज्ञा का पालन करते हुए उसके जमाई सोमेश्वर का मार्ग में ही वध कर दिया। समाचार प्राप्त कर ब्राह्‌मण नन्दा मार्ग में पहुंचा और रुदन करती अपनी पुत्री रत्नावली से बोला-‘हे पुत्री! मार्ग में लुटेरों ने तेरे पति का वध कर दिया है। भगवान की इच्छा के आगे किसी का कोई वश नहीं चलता है। अब तू घर चल, वहां पर ही रहकर शेष जीवन व्यतीत करना। जो भाग्य में लिखा है वही होगा।’

अपने पति की अकाल मृत्यु से रत्नावली बहुत दुःखी हुई। करुण क्रन्दन व रुदन करते हुए अपने पिता से बोली- ‘हे पिताजी! इस संसार में जिस स्त्री का पति नहीं है उसका जीना व्यर्थ है, मैं अपने पति के साथ ही अपने शरीर को जला दूंगी और सती होकर अपने इस जन्म को, माता-पिता के नाम को तथा सास-ससुर के यश को सार्थक करूंगी।’

ब्राह्‌मण नन्दा अपनी पुत्री रत्नावली के वचनों को सुनकर बहुत दुःखी हुआ। विचार करने लगा- मैंने व्यर्थ ही जमाई वध का पाप अपने सिर लिया। रत्नावली तो उसके पीछे अपने प्राण तक देने को तैयार है। मेरा तो दोनों तरफ से मरण हो गया। धन तो अब मिलेगा नहीं, जमाई वध के पाप के फलस्वरूप यम यातना भी भुगतनी पड़ेगी। यह सोचकर वह बहुत खिन्न हुआ।

सोमेश्वर की चिता बनाई गई। रत्नावली सती होने की इच्छा से अपने पति का सिर अपनी गोद में रखकर चिता में बैठ गई। जैसे ही सोमेश्वर की चिता को अग्नि लगाई गई वैसे ही प्रसन्न हो मंगलदेव वहां प्रकट हुए और बोले-‘हे रत्नावली! मैं तेरी पति भक्ति से बहुत प्रसन्न हूं, तू वर मांग।’ रत्नावली ने अपने पति का जीवनदान मांगा। तब मंगल देव बोले-‘रत्नावली! तेरा पति अजर-अमर है। यह महाविद्वान भी होगा। और इसके अतिरिक्त तेरी जो इच्छा हो वर मांग।’

तब रत्नावली बोली- ‘हे ग्रहों के स्वामी! यदि आप मुझ पर प्रसन्न हैं तो मुझे यह वरदान दीजिए कि जो भी मनुष्य मंगलवार के दिन प्रातः काल लाल पुष्प, लाल चन्दन से पूजा करके आपका स्मरण करे उसको रोग-व्याधि न हो, स्वजनों का कभी वियोग न हो, सर्प, अग्नि तथा शत्रुओं का भय न रहे, जो स्त्री मंगलवार का व्रत करे, वह कभी विधवा न हो।”

मंगलदेव -‘तथास्तु’ कह कर अन्तर्ध्यान हो गये।

सोमेश्वर मंगलदेव की कृपा से जीवित हो उठा। रत्नावली अपने पति को पुनः प्राप्त कर बहुत प्रसन्न हुई और मंगल देव का व्रत प्रत्येक मंगलवार को करके व्रतराज और मंगलदेव की कृपा से इस लोक में सुख-ऐश्वर्य को भोगते हुए अन्त में अपने पति के साथ स्वर्ग लोक को गई।

मंगलवार व्रत की कथा इस प्रकार से है. ऋषिनगर में केशवदत्त ब्राह्मण अपनी पत्नी अंजलि के साथ रहता था। केशवदत्त के घर में धन-संपत्ति की कोई कमी नहीं थी। नगर में सभी केशवदत्त का सम्मान करते थे, लेकिन केशवदत्त संतान नहीं होने से बहुत चिंतित रहता था।

दोनों पति-पत्नी प्रति मंगलवार को मंदिर में जाकर हनुमानजी की पूजा करते थे। विधिवत मंगलवार का व्रत करते हुए कई वर्ष बीत गए। ब्राह्मण बहुत निराश हो गया, लेकिन उसने व्रत करना नहीं छोड़ा।

कुछ दिनों के बाद केशवदत्त हनुमानजी की पूजा करने के लिए जंगल में चला गया। उसकी पत्नी अंजलि घर में रहकर मंगलवार का व्रत करने लगी। दोनों पति-पत्नी पुत्र-प्राप्ति के लिए मंगलवार का विधिवत व्रत करने लगे। कुछ दिनों बाद अंजलि ने अगले मंगलवार को व्रत किया लेकिन किसी कारणवश उस दिन अंजलि हनुमानजी को भोग नहीं लगा सकी और उस दिन वह सूर्यास्त के बाद भूखी ही सो गई।

अगले मंगलवार को हनुमानजी को भोग लगाए बिना उसने भोजन नहीं करने का प्रण कर लिया। छः दिन तक अंजलि भूखी-प्यासी रही। सातवें दिन मंगलवार को अंजलि ने हनुमानजी की पूजा की, लेकिन तभी भूख-प्यास के कारण अंजलि बेहोश हो गई।

हनुमानजी ने उसे स्वप्न में दर्शन देते हुए कहा- ‘उठो पुत्री! मैं तुम्हारी पूजा-पाठ से बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ। तुम्हें सुंदर और सुयोग्य पुत्र होने का वर देता हूँ।’ यह कहकर हनुमानजी अंतर्धान हो गए। तत्काल अंजलि ने उठकर हनुमानजी को भोग लगाया और स्वयं भोजन किया।

हनुमानजी की अनुकम्पा से अंजलि ने एक सुंदर शिशु को जन्म दिया। मंगलवार को जन्म लेने के कारण उस बच्चे का नाम मंगलप्रसाद रखा गया। कुछ दिनों बाद अंजलि का पति केशवदत्त भी घर लौट आया। उसने मंगल को देखा तो अंजलि से पूछा- ‘यह सुंदर बच्चा किसका है?’ अंजलि ने खुश होते हुए हनुमानजी के दर्शन देने और पुत्र प्राप्त होने का वरदान देने की सारी कथा सुना दी। लेकिन केशवदत्त को उसकी बातों पर विश्वास नहीं हुआ। उसके मन में पता नहीं कैसे यह कलुषित विचार आ गया कि अंजलि ने उसके साथ विश्वासघात किया है। अपने पापों को छिपाने के लिए अंजलि झूठ बोल रही है।

केशवदत्त ने उस बच्चे को मार डालने की योजना बनाई। एक दिन केशवदत स्नान के लिए कुएँ पर गया। मंगल भी उसके साथ था। केशवदत्त ने मौका देखकर मंगल को कुएँ में फेंक दिया और घर आकर बहाना बना दिया कि मंगल तो कुएँ पर मेरे पास पहुँचा ही नहीं। केशवदत्त के इतने कहने के ठीक बाद मंगल दौड़ता हुआ घर लौट आया।

केशवदत्त मंगल को देखकर बुरी तरह हैरान हो उठा। उसी रात हनुमानजी ने केशवदत्त को स्वप्न में दर्शन देते हुए कहा- ‘तुम दोनों के मंगलवार के व्रत करने से प्रसन्न होकर, पुत्रजन्म का वर मैंने दिया था। फिर तुम अपनी पत्नी को कुलटा क्यों समझते हो!’

उसी समय केशवदत्त ने अंजलि को जगाकर उससे क्षमा माँगते हुए स्वप्न में हनुमानजी के दर्शन देने की सारी कहानी सुनाई। केशवदत्त ने अपने बेटे को हृदय से लगाकर बहुत प्यार किया। उस दिन के बाद सभी आनंदपूर्वक रहने लगे।

मंगलवार का विधिवत व्रत करने से केशवदत्त और उनके सभी कष्ट दूर हो गए। इस तरह जो स्त्री-पुरुष विधिवत मंगलवार का व्रत करके व्रतकथा सुनते हैं, हनुमानजी उनके सभी कष्ट दूर करके घर में धन-संपत्ति का भंडार भर देते हैं। शरीर के सभी रक्त विकार के रोग भी नष्ट हो जाते हैं।

WHO SHOULD OBSERVE TUESDAY FAST

As per the astrology, Tuesday fast must be observed by those people who have Mars in the sin house or Mars is not able to give favorable effects on being weak. This fast is performed for the peace of Mars planet. People who have violent and fiery attitude should observe the Tuesday fast to cool down their anger. Boys can keep this fast for growing there intelligence and strength. This Vrat helps in making the business successful.

SIGNIFICANCE OF TUESDAY FASTING

Every fast has different importance and results. Through fast, a person pleases his adored God and Goddess. In return he gets peace and happiness. This fast is observed for getting wealth, husband and relief from incurable disease. This fast helps to get liberation from the world of illusions.

A person should observe this fast, if Mars located in his birth Lagan has a weak positioning. Also people whose Kundali has Mahadasha of Mars, Pratayantar Dasha, or unwanted accidents in the transit period, should observe this fast for the auspicious effects of Mars. Hence, the fast of Tuesday is very favorable. Worshipping Lord Hanuman gives freedom from all kinds of sins like vocal or mental etc. And, the person achieve happiness, wealth and profit.

METHOD OF TUESDAY FAST

On the day of Tuesday fast, you should have pure thoughts. This fast is done for getting freedom from obstacles like ghost and sprites. On the day of fast, Vrat katha is must to be heard. This day, salt should not be used.

The fast of Tuesday is observed for Lord Mars and pleasing God Hanuman. This fast is kept continuously for 21 Tuesdays. This fast gets best results of the Mars planet. A person observing this fast should mentally prepare himself a day before only. He should wake up before sunrise, on the day of fast. In the early morning, he should complete his routine work and bathing etc. Then, sprinkle Ganga jal or holy water in the house to make it pure. On the day of fast, person should wear red color clothes.

In a peaceful corner of Ishan Kon (North-East direction) in the house, place an idol or picture of God Hanuman. At the place of Puja, a lamp of four wicks is lighted. And the resolution of the fast is taken. then, Lord Hanuman is worshipped with Lal Gandh, flower and Akshat, in a systematic manner.

While worshiping Lord Hanuman, taking the 21 names of God Mars is considered auspicious. The names are as follows:-

Ardhaya of Lord Hanuman is done with the following mantra:

भूमिपुत्रो महातेजा: कुमारो रक्तवस्त्रक:।
गृहाणाघर्यं मया दत्तमृणशांतिं प्रयच्छ हे।

After this, Katha is read, Aarti is performed and Prasaad is distributed. After the Prasaad distribution, it’s eaten by the person observing fast.

MANGALVAR VRAT KATHA – I

Once there was a Brahmans son. He was married at an early age. He went to his father-in-laws village to get back his wife. His in-laws welcomed him heartily and gave him best dishes to eat.

The boy said to his father-in-law, Please send your daughter with me. My mother is unwell. There is nobody to look after her.

That is correct, said the father-in-law, but we have not made full preparations to offer her clothes and cash. The boy said, Our family is not so down-and-out as to accept such offers all the time. You send your daughter with me. The boys mother-in-law raised another objection and said, My daughter is a newly-wed and she is very beautiful. She will wear gold ornaments. Who will guarantee her safety during the journey?
The boy said, I am brave enough to guard her. See my muscular body. The mother-in-law said, It is not the muscular body but the mind which guards us. The boy said, Do not consider me without mind. The father-in-law and the mother-in-law argued for some time with the son-in-law and finally agreed to send their daughter with him.
The young husband and wife both started their journey for the village. It was Tuesday. Tuesday is devoted he god Mars. He is the commander of this day. The Mars saw the Brahmans beautiful wife. He was dazzled to see such a beauty. He knew witchcraft. He disguised himself as a Brahmans son and said to the boy, She is my wife. Who are you to accompany her? Give her to me, otherwise I will kill you.

The Brahmans son felt bewildered at the sight of an identical man like him. He said, You are a ghost. You are a cheat. She is my wife. How can I give her to you? The woman would not differentiate between the two. She stood there puzzled. Some cow herds noticed their quarrel. They went to them and asked about the cause of their quarrel.The Brahmans son said She is my wife. This man is a cheat. He wants to take away my wife under a false disguise. He is not the man who has married this woman. I am her real husband. The Mars who was in the guise of Brahmans son said, She is my wife and I am her real husband. The cow-herds felt confused at their claims. One of the cow-herd asked the woman, Who is your real husband?

The lady said, I was married when I was very young. I have cast my look at my husband for the first time, after long years. I cannot differentiate between the two. The matter became still complicated. One of the cow-herds sensed the gravity of the situation. He could see that one of them was a spirit. He knew how to deal with such spirits. He said, Bring an earthen pot with a spout. I will hand over this lady to the real husband. They arranged a Kuchcha Karva or a pot with a spout. The cowherd said, This lady belongs to that person who can enter this pot through its spout.
The Brahmans son said, This is injustice. I cannot enter this pot. The cowherd said, Then you are a cheat. You would have to abide by my order. The Brahmans son kept mum. He was helpless. The Mars said, She is my wife. I can enter this pot through its spout. The clever cowherd said, if you enter this pot, she will be your wife.
The Mars was in the form of a spirit. He knew the craft of changing his body into any shape. He entered the pot through the spout. The cow-herd dosed the spout with a tight cork. The Mars was imprisoned in the pot. He could not come out from it. To make his escape impossible, the cowherd dug a deep hole in the ground and put that earthen pot deep into it and filled the hole up. The Brahmans son was happy. He thanked the cowherd for his intelligence and wisdom.
Since that day, it has been a belief that nobody should dig earth on Tuesday so that the devil spirit of the Mars remains inside the earth for ever.

MANGALVAR VRAT KATHA – II

Tuesday is devoted to Lora Hanuman. The devotees listen to this story before breaking their fast in the afternoon. The wrestlers do not massage their bodies on this day to avoid hairfalllng. Some wrestlers observe Tuesday as a rest day.
Once there was an old lady. She used to observe Tuesday fast. She enjoyed all sorts of prosperity. Her daughter-in-law used to give her four loaves on every Tuesday. She used to go to the Hanuman Temple and offered two loaves there. The remaining two she ate herself and felt satisfied.
Once the daughter-in-law asked her children to follow their grandmother and to keep a watch over her activities. Her grandsons noticed that their grandmother offered two loaves to Lord Hanuman and broke her fast with the remaining two. They reported the matter to their mother. Their mother thought that the old lady was wasting two loaves and decided to cook two loaves only.
On the next Tuesday, the daughter-in-law gave her only two loaves. The old lady went to the Hanuman temple arid offered one loaf to Hanuman and broke her fast with the remaining one. Her grandsons noticed her and reported the matter to their mother. Their mother thought that the old lady was wasting one loaf and decided to give her one loaf only.
The old lady accepted one loaf on the coming Tuesday and went to the Hanuman temple. She offered half a loaf to lord Hanuman and broke her fast with the other half. Her grandson noticed it and reported again to their mother. Their mother thought that the old lady was wasting her food at familys expense. She decided not to give her any loaf on Tuesdays.
The old lady went to the Hanuman temple empty-handed. She had nothing to offer. Lord Hanuman appeared before her as a young boy and said, O, old ma, what ails you? The old lady related the whole story to the young boy. The young boy said, Why dont you erect a cottage of yours behind this temple? Take me as your son. I shall arrange food for you. What is the use of living with a family which does not care for its elders!
The old lady agreed and started living in the cottage. Everyday the young boy would bring a mug full of milk and a lump of crushed bread mixed with sugar and butter (churma) for her. Her life was now very happy and peaceful. The old ladys daughter-in-law became poorer and poorer day-after-day. Unwanted quarrels broke out in the house due to poverty. They had little to eat. One day she said to her children, Go to your grandmother and observe what she does.
The children went to their grandmother. The old lady welcomed them. She shared milk and Churma with them and asked them to visit her everyday. The children went back to their house and related the whole thing to their mother. She was surprised to know that the old lady was hale and hearty instead of growing weak. She realised her mistake and asked her husband to bring her back.
Her husband said, Why should I go? You are responsible for our sufferings. You make quarrels in the family everyday. You forced her to leave this house. You were jealous of her even for meager meals. This house lost its prosperity the moment she left us. You have no regards for your elders and their noble deeds.
The lady said, Let all of us go to her. We shall convince her that she should come back. Her husband agreed and they went to the old lady. The young boy was sitting with her and serving her food. The old ladys daughter-in-law fell at the feet of her mother-in-law and begged pardon of her for her misdeeds. The old lady said to the young boy; Should I accompany them as they have realised their mistake? The young boy said, Yes, you may. If you face any difficulty, you may come back.
The old lady returned to her family. She observed Tuesday fasts and her daughter-in-law never objected to her giving half of her food to Lord Hanuman. Prosperity again visited their house and they lived a happy life.

MANGALVAR VRAT KATHA – III

Unwanted suspicion, doubt or misbelief creates unhappiness in the family. Unshakeable faith in one god brings happiness. A chaste life is above suspicion.
Once there lived a Brahman couple. They were issueless. So their life was very unhappy. The Brahman went to the jungles to appease Lord Hanuman. He would pray for a child in his prayers. His wife used to observe fasts on Tuesdays to placate the Lord. She used to take her food on Mondays only after offering Prasaad to Lord Hanuman.Once she observed some special fast for the whole day. So she could not offer Prasaad to Hanuman. She was very sorry for it and felt guilty. She decided to observe a fast till the coming Tuesday. She said to herself that she would take her meals only after offering Prasaad to Hanuman.She became weak and fragile and even fainted due to the long fast. Hanuman took pity on her and appeared before her in the guise of a child. Hanuman said, I bless you with a beautiful son. He will always serve you, day and night. He then disappeared after blessing the lady.
Fortunately, the lady got a beautiful son. She named him Mangal. The Brahman returned home after some months. He saw a handsome child playing in his courtyard. He became suspicious and said to his wife, Whose child Is this? Have you indulged in adultery? The woman said politely, My dear husband, I am a chaste lady. I used to observe Tuesday fast in your absence to please Lord Hanuman. He has blessed me with this child. Please believe me. The Brahman kept mum but deep in his heart, doubts began to curl up every moment. The lady was helpless. One day the Brahman was going to take his bath at some nearby well. The lady told him, Please take Mangal alongwith you. He is quite grown-up. He will fetch water for your bath. He will also rub your back.
The Brahman agreed and took the boy alongwith him. He thought it would be a good occasion to push him into the well and to get-rid of a sinful child for good. As the boy was to fetch water, the Brahman pushed the boy into the well and returned home. To her great surprise, the woman noticed that the Brahman did not have wet dhoti on his shoulders. She said, Have you taken your bath? The Brahman said, Yes.
The lady said, Please give me your wet dhoti to enable me to spread it on the string. The Brahman was nonplussed. He had guilty conscience. He murmured some words and tried to leave the house. The wife said, Where is my Mangal? Where is my Mangal? O! Mangal, appear before my eyes if I am a cheste lady and you are my true son.
To the great surprise of both the wife and the husband, Mangal appeared at the door. He embraced his mother and touched his fathers feet. That might Lord Hanuman appeared before the Brahman in his dreams and said, O! poor creature, I blessed you with a son, and you suspect your wife of adultery. You must feel sorry for it.
The Brahman realised his mistake. His wife regularly observed fasts on Tuesdays. Thereafter they led a happy life. It is said that whosoever reads or listens to this story and keeps regular fasts Lord Hanuman protects him from air evils and bestows all happiness.
The Mangalvar Vrat is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The Mangalvar Vrat is very beneficial to negate all the malefic effects of Mangal (Mars). The Mangalvar Vrat is to be kept for 21 consecutive weeks. On this day Lord Hanuman is worshipped using red flowers, along with wearing of red colored clothes. Along with the Vrat Katha, Hanuman Chalisa is also recited. On this day devotees eat food made from wheat and Jaggery only. Mangalvar Vrat leads to success, happiness, protection and stability in both professional and personal life. It also helps in overcoming the enemies.
