Importance of Nirjala Ekadashi

The greatness of Nirjala Ekadasi was explained by Sage Vyasa.

  • It is equal to going on pilgrimage.
  • It provides virtue of all 24 Ekadashi.
  • It washes away all sin.
  • Grants happiness, prosperity, longevity and moksha (salvation).
  • This Ekadasi happens before monsoon season and therefore it is also helps in cleansing the body.

How to Observe Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat

Nirjala means without water. Hence, fast is observed without water and food. It is considered as the most strict and hence, most sacred of all Ekadashis. This fast is extremely difficult to follow as it falls in the hot Indian summer. The 24 hours long fast begins from sunrise on Nirjala Ekadashi to sunrise the next day. People fast and offer puja to Lord Vishnu on this day.

The fast begins with Sandhyavandanam – a prayer. This prayer is performed in the evening before Nirjala Ekadashi, i.e. on 10th lunar day. After prayer devotee takes only one meal, without rice (as rice eating is prohibited). The strict fast continuous throughout Ekadashi. It gets over on next morning. Devotees offer prayer, tulsi, fruits, and sweets to Lord Vishnu and then finish their fast.

Story of Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat

Bhimsen – the second Pandava brother and big eater wanted to keep Ekadashi Vrat. All his brothers, wife Draupadi and mother Kunti observed Vrat on 24 Ekadasis throughout the year and request him to do the same. But he was unable to perform the ritual due to unbearable hunger pangs. Bhima, was upset due to his weak determination. He was also sacred of dishonouring to Lord Vishnu. So, when Maharishi Vyasa visited them Bhima asked him to find a solution. Sage Vyasa advised him to observe single Nirjala Ekadasi fasting. This fast would compensate for not observing all Ekadashi fasting in a year. Bhima performed the fast with an ease but on the morning of very next day he became unconscious. Then he offered Ganga water with Tulsi to end up his day fast. Due to this legend Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as Bhimseni Ekadashi, Bhima Ekadashi or Pandava Ekadashi.

WD|

FILE

Mithuna Sankranti 2016 – June 15 (Wednesday)

Mithuna Sankranti is celebrated marking the occasion of Sun moving into another constellation called Gemini or Mithuna. Known as Mithuna Sankramanam in South India, it is regarded as one of the most auspicious occasions as per Hindu traditions and customs. People in Orissa celebrate it as Raja Sankranti, a four day long festival consisting of several interesting activities. It marks the onset of the agricultural year all across Odisha with being referred to as Raja Parba. More specifically, people welcome first rains officially by celebrating this festival.

Legends of Mithuna Sankranti

Mithuna Sankranti is celebrated for four days because of an interesting mythological depiction associated with it. Goddess Earth or Bhudevi is the wife of Lord Vishnu who is known to experience menstruation covering the period of initial three days. The grand celebrations is held in the form of Vasumati Gadhua, which marks the fourth and final day on which a prosperous bath is given to Bhudevi. Lord Jagannatha Temple in Puri consists of a silver idol of Bhudevi adorned with grandeur.

Mithuna Sankranti – A Reflection of Indian Customs and Traditions

Unmarried girls dress in beautiful attire and celebrate Raja Parba along with their friends and family. Raja Dholi Khela is an interesting event observed as a part of the festival in Odisha during which girls wishing for a good husband get onto swings. As a part of the traditions, girls sing Raja gita and others play card games and Ludo.

Raja Sankranti Celebrations in Odisha 2016

The four-day festival begins with the first day observed as Pahili Raja. Several traditional events are organized such as swaying upon various swings named as Ram Doli, Dandi Doli and so on. The second day is celebrated as Raja, which is simply known as Mithuna Sankranti. Basi Raja is the third day, which marks the completion of menstruation period.

Vasumati Snan – An Ode to Bhudevi

People wearing traditional Odiya costumes observe the final day of Mithuna Sankranti by showing their gratitude to Goddess Earth. Referred locally as Bhudevi, devotees perform special pujas to seek her divine blessings apart from a sacred bath to a grinding stone. Perhaps, the stone is considered to be a replica of Bhudevi that people consider to celebrate.

It is beautifully decorated with turmeric powder, different flowers, sandalwood and vermilion. The festival bears significance to nature and womenfolk in a direct fashion. The way earth gets ready to receive early rainfall, young girls too are known to get prepared for a perfect matrimonial alliance.

Everyone looks forward to celebrate the specific event of tying rope swings to banyan trees to have a good time with their family members, relatives and friends. The whole atmosphere turns into a colorful one with girls trying to outdo each other by wearing beautiful clothes.  Gotipua dances too are organized in villages reflecting typical Odiya culture.

Story of Goddess Ganga

Masik Durgashtami Vrat is observed month on month on the Ashtami Tithi (eighth day) of Shukla Paksha (bright half of the lunar month). This is a day-long fast stretches from morning till evening. The day is marked with a customary puja to Mother Durga as per the injunctions given in the sacred scriptures. This is one of the most popular kinds of vrats observed in the Hindu tradition which is believed to bestow the ultimate blessings of Mother Durga.

Though the Durgashtami vrat can be observed every month, the most important ones of the year falls on the day called Mahashtami or the Ashtami day occurring in the month of Ashwin. Notably, this is the time when the Shardiya Navratri festival stretching over nine days is celebrated with great fervor. Those intending to observe Masik Durgashtami usually observe the month puja in a simple way while performing an elaborate puja on the Mahashtami.

On the dedicated day of Durgashtami, people worship the eight manifestations of Goddess Durga with great devotion. The dishes that are specially prepared at home and offered to Mother Durga during the puja include Kheer, Halwa and others.

In the Durgashtami puja tradition, there is a customary practice of worshipping a small girl child denoting the nine manifestations of Mother Durga. During the puja, the chosen girl is offered Halwa Puri and dakshina in a way propitiating Mother Durga.

Durga Puja is dedicated to the eighth manifestation of Mother Durga namely Maha Gauri. This is one of the most benign and pleasing forms of Durga that has especially manifested to bless the devotees and relieve them of their sufferings and problems. Accordingly, those who observe the Masik Durgashtami with diligence as per the procedures have reaped great results as assured in the scriptures that has made this fast a highly popular one.

In the typical puja set up, a Ghat or holy pot is established on an altar. Usually, a copper pot is advised for this though other variations like panchaloga (combination of five metals), silver or earthen pots are also allowed as per availability. The Ghat is decorated with water and spices inside and mango leaves and coconut kept on top of it with the face pointing downwards. An image of Mother Durga is installed on the coconut or the Ghat.

The observer of the vrat should take flowers in both the hands and offer at the idol of Mother Durga while chanting the divine names of Mother Gauri. This process installs the Shakti of Mother Durga in the Ghat set up. The puja includes divine bath and sixteen types of offerings to the idol. Panchamrit or a salad made of five items including curd, milk, honey, cow’s ghee and sugar is the most important component of this puja. Some of the typical offerings made include fruits, dry fruits and resins, betel leaves and nuts, cloves and cardamom. At the end of the puja, arti or waving of camphor is done seven times.

The end of the puja is marked by inviting nine small girls, washing their feet with holy water and performing puja to them with offerings. Once all this is over, the day long fast is completed invoking the blessings of Mother Durga.

5 JUN 2016 BRAHMA DEV

Brahma

Brahma is the Hindu god (deva) of creation and one of the Trimurti, the others being Vishnu and Shiva. He is not to be confused with the Supreme Cosmic Spirit in Hindu Vedanta philosophy known as Brahman. Also, in Sanskrit Grammer, Brahman is Nominative Singular of generic word Brahman, as Aatma is Nominative Singular for Aatman. Brahaman and Aatman are same in Vedanta Philosphy, the Para-Aatma (Supersoul) and Jeeva Aatma (Individual Soul) are Brahman. His consort is Saraswati, the goddess of learning. Brahma is often identified with Prajapati, a Vedic deity.

According to the Puranas, Brahma is self-born (without mother) in the lotus flower which grew from the navel of Vishnu at the beginning of the universe. This explains his name Nabhija (born from the navel). Another legend says that Brahma was born in water. In this he deposited a seed that later became the golden egg. From this golden egg, Brahma the creator was born, as Hiranyagarbha. The remaining materials of this golden egg expanded into the Brahmanda or Universe. Being born in water, Brahma is also called Kanja (born in water). Brahma is said also to be the son of the Supreme Being, Brahman and the female energy known as Prakrti or Maya.

At the beginning of the process of creation, Brahma created eleven Prajapatis (used in another sense), who are believed to be the fathers of the human race. The Manusmriti enumerates them as Marichi, Atri, Angirasa, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, Vasishtha, Prachetas or Daksha, Bhrigu, and Narada. He is also said to have created the seven great sages or the Saptarishi to help him create the universe. However since all these sons of his were born out of his mind rather than body, they are called Manas Putras or mind-sons.

Within Vedic and Puranic scripture Brahma is described as only occasionally interfering in the affairs of the other devas (gods), and even more rarely in mortal affairs. He did force Soma to give Tara back to her husband, Brihaspati. He is considered the father of Dharma and Atri.

Brahma (/ˈbrəmɑː/; Brahmā) is the creator god in the Trimurti of Hinduism. He has four faces, looking in the four directions.[1] Brahma is also known as Svayambhu (self-born),[5] Vāgīśa (Lord of Speech), and the creator of the four Vedas, one from each of his mouths.[1][6] Brahma is identified with the Vedic god Prajapati, as well as linked to Kama and Hiranyagarbha (the cosmic egg),[7][8] he is more prominently mentioned in the post-Vedic Hindu epics and the mythologies in the Puranas. In the epics, he is conflated with Purusha.[1] Brahma, along with Vishnu and Shiva, is part of a Hindu Trinity, however, ancient Hindu texts mention other trinities of gods or goddesses which does not include Brahma.[9][10][note 1]

While Brahma is often credited as the creator of the universe and various beings in it, several Puranas describe him being born from a lotus emerging from the navel of the god Vishnu. Other Puranas suggest that he is born from Shiva or his aspects,[12] or he is a supreme god in diverse versions of Hindu mythology.[7] Brahma, along with Vishnu and Shiva, is also viewed as a different form of Brahman, the ultimate formless metaphysical reality and cosmic soul in Hinduism.[10][8]

Brahma does not enjoy popular worship in present-age Hinduism and has lesser importance than the other members of the Trimurti, Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma is revered in ancient texts, yet rarely worshipped as a primary deity in India.[13] Very few temples dedicated to him exist in India; the most famous being the Brahma Temple, Pushkar in Rajasthan.[14] Brahma temples are found outside India, such as in Thailand at the Erawan Shrine inBangkok.[15]

Etymology[edit]

Brahma sculpture at the 12th century Chennakesava temple at Somanathapura, Karnataka.

The origins of Brahma are uncertain, in part because several related words such as one for Ultimate Reality (Brahman), and priest (Brahmin) are found in the Vedic literature. The existence of a distinct deity named Brahma is evidenced in late Vedic text.[16] A distinction between spiritual concept of Brahman, and deity Brahma, is that the former is gender neutral abstract metaphysical concept in Hinduism,[17] while the latter is one of the many masculine gods in Hindu mythology.[18] The spiritual concept of Brahman is far older, and some scholars suggest deity Brahma may have emerged as a personal conception and visible icon of the impersonal universal principle called Brahman.[16]

In Sanskrit grammar, the noun stem brahman forms two distinct nouns; one is a neuter noun bráhman, whose nominative singular form is brahma; this noun has a generalized and abstract meaning.[19]

Contrasted to the neuter noun is the masculine noun brahmán, whose nominative singular form is Brahma.[note 2] This noun is used to refer to a person, and as the proper name of a deity Brahma it is the subject matter of the present article.

History[edit]

Vedic literature[edit]

One of the earliest mention of Brahma with Vishnu and Shiva is in the fifth Prapathaka (lesson) of the Maitrayaniya Upanishad, probably composed in late 1st millennium BCE. Brahma is discussed in verse 5,1 also called theKutsayana Hymn first, and expounded in verse 5,2.[20][21]

In the pantheistic Kutsayana Hymn,[20] the Upanishad asserts that one’s Soul is Brahman, and this Ultimate Reality, Cosmic Universal or God is within each living being. It equates the Atman (Soul, Self) within to be Brahma and various alternate manifestations of Brahman, as follows, “Thou art Brahma, thou art Vishnu, thou art Rudra (Shiva), thou art Agni, Varuna, Vayu, Indra, thou art All.”[20][22]

In verse 5,2 Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are mapped into the theory of Guṇa, that is qualities, psyche and innate tendencies the text describes can be found in all living beings.[22][23] This chapter of the Maitri Upanishad asserts that the universe emerged from darkness (Tamas), first as passion characterized by action qua action (Rajas), which then refined and differentiated into purity and goodness (Sattva).[20][22] Of these three qualities, Rajas is then mapped to Brahma, as follows:[24]

Now then, that part of him which belongs to Tamas, that, O students of sacred knowledge (Brahmacharins), is this Rudra.
That part of him which belongs to Rajas, that O students of sacred knowledge, is this Brahma.
That part of him which belongs to Sattva, that O students of sacred knowledge, is this Vishnu.
Verily, that One became threefold, became eightfold, elevenfold, twelvefold, into infinite fold.
This Being (neuter) entered all beings, he became the overlord of all beings.
That is the Atman (Soul, Self) within and without – yea, within and without !

While the Maitri Upanishad maps Brahma with one of the elements of Guṇa theory of Hinduism, the text does not depict him as one of the trifunctional elements of the Hindu Trimurti idea found in later Puranic literature.[25]

Post-Vedic, Epics and Puranas[edit]

In Puranic mythology, Brahma emerges from a lotus risen from Vishnu’s navel while he rests on the serpent Shesha

The post-Vedic texts of Hinduism offer multiple theories of cosmogony, many involving Brahma. These include Sarga (primary creation of universe) and Visarga (secondary creation), ideas related to the Indian thought that there are two levels of reality, one primary that is unchanging (metaphysical) and other secondary that is always changing (empirical), and that all observed reality of the latter is in an endless repeating cycle of existence, that cosmos and life we experience is continually created, evolved, dissolved and then re-created.[26] The primary creator is extensively discussed in Vedic cosmogonies with Brahman or Purusha or Devi among the terms used for the primary creator,[26][27] while the Vedic and post-Vedic texts name different gods and goddesses as secondary creators (often Brahma in post-Vedic texts), and in some cases a different god or goddess is the secondary creator at the start of each cosmic cycle (kalpa, aeon).[26][28]

Brahma is a “secondary creator” as described in the Mahabharata and Puranas, and among the most studied and described.[29][30][31] Born from a lotus emerging from the navel of Vishnu, Brahma creates all the forms in the universe, but not the primordial universe itself.[32] In contrast, the Shiva-focussed Puranas describe Brahma and Vishnu to have been created by Ardhanarishvara, that is half Shiva and half Parvati; or alternatively, Brahma was born from Rudra, or Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma creating each other cyclically in different aeons (kalpa).[33] Thus in most Puranic texts, Brahma’s creative activity depends on the presence and power of a higher god.[34]

In the Bhagavata Purana, Brahma is portrayed several times as the one who rises from the “Ocean of Causes”.[35] Brahma, states this Purana, emerges at the moment when time and universe is born, inside a lotus rooted in the navel of Hari (deity Vishnu, whose praise is the primary focus in the Purana). The myth asserts that Brahma is drowsy, errs and is temporarily incompetent as he puts together the universe.[35] He then becomes aware of his confusion and drowsiness, meditates as an ascetic, then realizes Hari in his heart, sees the beginning and end of universe, and then his creative powers are revived. Brahma, states Bhagavata Purana, thereafter combines Prakriti(nature, matter) and Purusha (spirit, soul) to create a dazzling variety of living creatures, and tempest of casual nexus.[35] The Bhagavata Purana thus attributes the creation of Maya to Brahma, wherein he creates for the sake of creation, imbuing everything with both the good and the evil, the material and the spiritual, a beginning and an end.[36]

The Puranas describe Brahma as the deity creating time. They correlate human time to Brahma’s time, such as a mahākalpa being a large cosmic period, correlating to one day and one night in Brahma’s existence.[34]

The stories about Brahma in various Puranas are diverse and inconsistent. In Skanda Purana, for example, goddess Parvati is called the “mother of the universe”, and she is credited with creating Brahma, gods and the three worlds. She is the one, states Skanda Purana, who combined the three Gunas – Sattva, Rajas and Tamas – into matter (Prakrti) to create the empirically observed world.[37]

The Vedic discussion of Brahma as a Rajas-quality god expands in the Puranic and Tantric literature. However, these texts state that his wife Saraswati has Sattva (quality of balance, harmony, goodness, purity, holistic, constructive, creative, positive, peaceful, virtuous), thus complementing Brahma’s Rajas (quality of passion, activity, neither good nor bad and sometimes either, action qua action, individualizing, driven, dynamic).[38][39][40]

Iconography[edit]

A 19th century roundel of Brahma, depicts him as a four-headed, red-complexioned aged man, who holds the Vedas, a ladle and a lotus in his hands.

Brahma is traditionally depicted with four faces and four arms.[41] Each face of his points to a cardinal direction. His hands hold no weapons, rather symbols of knowledge and creation. In one hand he holds the sacred texts ofVedas, in second he holds mala (rosary beads) symbolizing time, in third he holds a ladle symbolizing means to feed sacrificial fire, and in fourth a utensil with water symbolizing the means where all creation emanates from. His four mouths are credited with creating the four Vedas.[1] He is often depicted with a white beard, implying his sage like experience. He sits on lotus, dressed in white (or red, pink), with his vehicle (vahana) – hansa, a swan or goose – nearby.[41][42]

Chapter 51 of Manasara-Silpasastra, an ancient design manual in Sanskrit for making Murti and temples, states that Brahma statue should be golden in color.[4] The text recommends that the statue have four faces and four arms, have jata-mukuta-mandita (matted hair of an ascetic), and wear a diadem (crown).[4] Two of his hands should be in refuge granting and gift giving mudra, while he should be shown with kundika (water pot), akshamala (rosary), a small and a large sruk-sruva (laddles used in yajna ceremonies).[4] The text details the different proportions of the murti, describes the ornaments, and suggests that the idol wear chira (bark strip) as lower garment, and either be alone or be accompanied with goddesses Sarasvati on his right and Savitri on his left.[4]

Brahma’s consort is the goddess Saraswati. She is considered to be “the embodiment of his power, the instrument of creation and the energy that drives his actions”.[43]

Temples[edit]

India[edit]

Though almost all Hindu religious rites involve prayer to Brahma, very few temples are dedicated to his worship. Among the most prominent is Brahma Temple, Pushkar. Once a year, on Kartik Poornima, the full moon night of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik (October – November), a religious festival is held in Brahma’s honour. Thousands of pilgrims come to bathe in the holy Pushkar Lake adjacent to the temple. There is a temple in Asotra village in Balotrataluka of Rajasthan’s Barmer district, which is known as Kheteshwar Brahmadham Tirtha.

Temples to Brahma also exist in Tirunavaya in Kerala. The Trimurti temple and the temple dedicated to Brahma accompanied by Ganesha, located outside Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is also famous. He is also a part of the Trimurti in Thripaya Trimurti Temple and Mithrananthapuram Trimurti Temple in Kerala. Regular pujas are held for Brahma at the temple in Tirunavaya, and during Navratris, this temple comes to life with multi-varied festivities.

Also in the temple town of Kumbakonam in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu and in Kodumudi in the Erode District of Tamil Nadu. There is also a shrine for Brahma within the Brahmapureeswarar Temple in Tiruchirappalli.

There is a temple dedicated to Brahma in the temple town of Srikalahasti near Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

The largest and most famous shrine to Brahma may be found in Cambodia’s Angkor Wat.[citation needed] One of the three largest temples in the 9th-century Prambanan temples complex in Yogyakarta, central Java (Indonesia) is dedicated to Brahma, the other two to Shiva (largest of three) and Vishnu respectively.[44] The temple dedicated to Brahma is on southern side of Śiva temple.

A statue of Brahma is present at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, and continues to be revered in modern times.[15] The golden dome of the Government House of Thailand also contains a statue of Phra Phrom (Thai representation of Brahma). An early 18th-century painting at Wat Yai Suwannaram in Phetchaburi city of Thailand shows Brahma.[45]

The country name of Burma is derived from Brahma, and in medieval texts it is referred to as Brahma-desa.[46][47]

Duration of Brahma’s day[edit]

With regard to Brahma’s day and night, each consists of 14 of his hours or 4.32 billion human years. “Brahma has four heads” (Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 12.8.2–5).[48]

Nomenclature[edit]

Brahma is regionally spelled as Sanskrit: ब्रह्मदेव, Telugu: బ్రహ్మ and Tamil: ப்ரம்மா.

Position in astrological hierarchy

Aspects of bright moon are considered to be beneficial while the dark moon is deemed as malefic.

  1. Moon is known to be the ruler of the zodiac sign, Cancer. It exalts the sign of Taurus and falls in the zodiac sign of Scorpio.

  2. It is imperative to remember that Chandra is the most comfortable and beneficial in the Fourth House of Astrological order. It is specifically favorable for ascendants belonging to the water sign like Scorpio, Cancer, and Pisces. The Chandra is fundamentally in the water state.

  3. Chandra is supposed to be the indicator of overall well-being, beauty, femininity, happiness, memory, mind, and eyesight.

  4. Chandra is the signifier of senses and their inherent ability to perceive life in all its glory and splendor. Praying to Lord Chandra can help in resolving problems associated with the mind.

Some beneficial remedies

Vedic astrology denotes that the Moon depicts the state of brain, mind, sensitivity, softness, emotions, feelings and imagination. It has been already mentioned that the waning moon is said to be malefic while the waxing moon is deemed as benefic. Chandra is the Ruler of three Lunar mansions or Nakshatras, which are Shravana, Hasta, and Rohini. Chandra dominates the Karka or Cancer sign. For overcoming problems associated with Antardasa or Dasa of moon, you can take aid of the following remedies –

  1. Reciting the Annapoorna Strotam can prove to be beneficial. You can even worship the ruling deity i.e. Lord Shiva.

  2. Chanting the mool mantra of the Moon for ten thousand times within forty days will certainly bring positive results.

  3. Recitation of Chandra Stotra can be useful. Other helpful attributes are observing fasts on Monday, wearing moonstone or pearl gemstone along with two Mukhi Rudraksha.

  4. Another recommended step is performing jaap of eighteen malas. Performing puja on Moon Hora and Mondays will bear affirmative results. Other important days for conducting the puja are Pournami and Chaturthi Tithis.

Procedure and vidhi of Puja

The most important procedure of Chandra Puja is the Murthy Sthaapna and praying to different Gods and Godesses.

  1. Murthy Sthaapna of Lord Ganesha, Devi Lakshmi, Lord Chandra Dev, Lord Brahma, Lord Agni and Navgraha or nine planets takes place. Kalash Sthaapna then follows this process.

  2. Priests then recite the Navagraha Mantra Jaap, which is essentially one mala for each celestial body.

  3. The Chandra Mantra Jaap is chanted for eleven thousand times. After this, Puja of Lord Shiva takes place.

  4. An important aspect of the Chandra Shanti Puja is the Chandra Homa. Necessary requirements for Chandra Homam are til, ghee, sugar, sandalwood powder, Navagraha Samidha, Ashtagandh, and honey. The next step includes performing of Purnahuti, Aarti, and Pushpanjali.

  5. Providing Chandra Shanti donation is necessary along with the distribution of Prasad.

According to certain Vedic texts, there is a significant myth behind the various attributes of the Moon. When Sukracharya requested Lord Vishnu to distribute Amrutham, an asura in the disguise of a Deva drank the nectar. This felony was noticed by Chandran and Suryan, who reported it to Lord Vishnu. A livid Vishnu severed the asura into two pieces with his Chakrayudham or discus.

As the Asura had consumed Amrutham, the severed body pieces grew into Rahu and Kethu Bhagavan. These two bodies then sought revenge from Suryan and Chandran. Rahu consumed Chandra, who then sought blessings from Lord Shiva for protecting himself. Chandra is another aspect of Lord Shiva and, for this reason; we have the waxing and waning moon.

Mahadasha and Dosha of Chandra

The Moon’s position is closest during an individual’s Nakshatra. This aspect expedites the creation of Chandra Mahadasha. This condition renders an individual to be intuitive, emotional and concerned. In Vedic astrological texts, the Moon symbolizes Mother, nourishment, public life, fertility, and emotions. Chandra Mahadasha induces a person with receptivity, good memory, affluence, and sensitivity. Strong Chandra during the period of Mahadasha will make you more creative, emotionally balanced, knowledgeable and imaginative. However, a weak moon can bring forth quiet frailty and mental weakness. It also brings physical issues like drowsiness, kidney problems, menstrual problems, depression, lethargy and fertility issues.

Chandra Dosha is essentially known as the Moon’s weaker side. It affects relationship between other people and causes mental tension, diseases, personality disorders, difficulties and emotional disturbances. Performing certain critical remedies can prove to be beneficial. For appeasing the Moon Lord and getting rid of Chandra Dosha, you can donate white cloth, white sandal and flowers, conch, silver, camphor, rice grains, curd, pearls and sugar. Worshiping Goddess Parvati with Lord Chandra will also bear beneficial outcomes. Gauri-Shankar are considered to be ruler of Chandra. Worshiping the Ardhnareshwar form will bring your positive consequences.

Mantras and Yajnas

Gayatri mantra is deemed to be beneficial for appeasing the Moon Lord. You can also chant certain other incantations like Purnakota Mantra and Bija Mantra. Count of each incantation should be six thousand times. Depending on your dosha in the horoscope, mantras can reduce malefic effects for a few years. For getting rid of inauspicious consequences of Chandra planet, havan or yagya can be an essential remedy. For performing a yajna, it is fundamental to use essential roots and herbs in the ahuti. The ashes from burned herbs in the sacrificial fire remove ill effects and diseases. The Yagya is then followed by incanting of mantras, havan, and tarpan. Prevalent wood that is used during Havan is Palash.
